You know it’s a good day when you receive a random Facebook message asking you to make fun of the County for buying a movie theater. But if you’re anything like me, you have no idea about this story! The County Commissioners are known for doing some fun things, but buying a movie theater? That one seemed a little out of left field.
You know what is kinda funny that slipped by? The county buying the movie theater. There is just so much inherently funny about it. From the stadium seating to the box office to the Now Playing signs 😂Even if they level out the floor it’s like offices with 40 foot ceilings

Sure enough. The AMC Movie Theater, after being ravaged and shutdown thanks to COVID-19, may very well be in the hands of Coweta County! While Coweta’s other movie theater withstood the virus, the already struggling AMC couldn’t find a way out. And on July 30th, news broke that the Coweta County Board of Commissioners signed a real estate contract for the property.
The contract, that is said to be $2.15 million for the 32,000-square-foot building, would give the County extra office space, a location for Elections and Registration, and even space to house the overflow of animals in the Coweta Animal Services shelters. If anything, there is a lot of things the County can do with the gigantic building!
Since the story came out early this summer, we have yet to hear confirmation on the contract or any concrete plans for the building. We’ve reached out to the Coweta County Commissioner’s Office and will update if it turns out you can register to vote, grab a popcorn, and see the latest Marvel movie all in one place!
Update 8/25/21
The real estate contract with AMC was approved and executed by both parties. Closing is expected to occur within the next few days.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,Michael
