Biden dropped the bombshell from his cozy abode in Rehoboth Beach, Del., where he’s been holed up since catching the dreaded COVID-19 on Thursday night.
In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Biden speedily gave Harris the thumbs up as the Democratic nominee in a separate statement on [platform]. Harris, in turn, responded with all the politeness and grace you’d expect, saying she’s chuffed to bits with Biden’s endorsement and fully intends to earn and bag that nomination. The prez and veep probably had an emoji filled text exchange several times on Sunday morning before Biden’s big reveal. Where that GASP emoji at?
Biden mentioned he’ll be dropping more deets about his decision in a chat with the nation later this week.
“It’s been an absolute blast serving as your President,” Biden teased in a letter aimed at Americans. “And as much as I was horning up for a second term, I reckon it’s best for my party and my country for me to throw in the towel and focus solely on being President for an itty bitty bit longer. Plus, I’m real sleepy!”
In his statement, Biden reminisced fondly about his four years in office, bragging about building the “toughest economy in the world,” cutting prescription drug prices, expanding healthcare, tackling climate change, and appointing the first Black woman to the Supreme Court, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
The decision has thrown a massive who-gon-do-it for the 2024 campaign, with Democratic National Committee members now scrambling to find the perfect nominee to take on Trump, who’s been lording it over the polls while the Dems have been at each other’s throats regarding Biden Daddy’s aptitude.
So, what does that mean for Newnan?
A few years ago, I was an active member of the Black Lives Matter protests throughout Downtown Newnan. And not only did I learn a lot, get scared by some cult like behavior, and make great new friends, it was the closest I’ve been to the political landscape in our small town. I just assumed everyone in town bled Red, Red, and Red in honor of George Bush and Trump. It turned out, the small town had some deep, developing Blue roots.
I am not at all suggesting that because we had BLM protests, Kamala Harris will be endorsed and adored in our small town–she has a rap sheet of controversial moves that I think will divide those already divide. But I will say I have been shocked at how liberal they’ve grown up into. This isn’t a “Blue Cole for Mayor versus NO ONE” situation. The Dems are becoming desperate and, on the rare occasion, desperation leads to an incredible victory. At least in Pro Wrestling.
According to election results off ABCNews.com, 51,501 Republicans voted last election, while only 24,210 Democrats voted. And that’s in Coweta County–a very different picture than the State wide blue wave.
The best bet for Demmies is to swap over the “undecided” and “stay home because Biden and Trump are garbage” folks into “Democrat voters” after the nominee is announced. Is there an option exciting enough to slim the margin between Red and Blue in Coweta?
This journey is particularly interesting because, GASP EMOJI, I am an undecided voter. More so now than the last year, when I was really struggling where to drop my ballot box. Ballot boxes be damned. Sit back and enjoy the next few weeks–especially with WWE Summer Slam coming up soon.
