There will be a cookout.
Location: Homeport Drive, Newnan, GA
Date: 4th of July weekend
Time: Sometime in the afternoon
Food will be served. Probably hot dogs and burgers.
Robert Payne will be handling the grill again this year.
He has lived on Homeport Drive for 11 years and 4 months. He moved to the area from Griffin after accepting a position at Lowe’s. His grill is a standard black charcoal unit purchased at Lowe’s in 2017. He considered getting a propane model but ultimately decided charcoal gives “a little more flavor.” His friends and family agree.
Robert uses a long-handled spatula with a wooden grip that he bought during a Labor Day sale. He keeps it in his garage, hanging on a small nail next to an old rake. He prefers to start preheating at least 22 minutes before the first guests are expected to arrive. He sometimes sets a timer on his phone but often just glances at his watch. It is waterproof. His son, Tanner, bought it for him on his birthday four years ago.
Last year, he cooked 28 hot dogs, 9 burgers, and one veggie patty that was only half eaten. No one got food poisoning. And while ketchup enhanced the food, it was not necessary. There was plenty ketchup leftover.
Robert has his own folding chair, which has two cup holders but only one is ever used. He drinks Diet Coke, ice water, and two beers.
You can come if you want.
Bring something if you feel like it. Buns, probably.
Sparklers encouraged.
The standard format of the restaurant features two drive-thru lanes and a walk-up window, but no indoor seating. Some newer locations have an indoor dining room and counter service similar to a traditional fast-food restaurant, but most still only have drive-thru and walk-up service. The restaurant specializes in hamburgers, milkshakes, and North Carolina-style pork barbecue. Information unrelated.
