NEW NEWNAN AQUARIUM OPENS DOORS AND HEARTS
After months of anticipation, the Newnan Aquarium officially opened its doors this Saturday, drawing dozens of visitors and one proud uncle with a minnow bucket.
Housed in what used to be a Piggly Wiggly, the aquarium boasts a stunning array of “aquatic biodiversity,” which appears to consist almost entirely of creatures found in Uncle Randy’s half-acre catfish pond off Gordon road.
“This here’s Big Lou,” said Randy, pointing at a muddy catfish lazily circling a kiddie pool. “Caught him with a biscuit. Been livin’ in my bathtub.”
The exhibit features other wonders of the local ecosystem, including:
• Four identical bluegill
• A turtle that won’t stop hissing at children
• A bucket of tadpoles with a sign reading “Just Imagine These As Frogs”
• One suspiciously large crawdad Randy insists is “half lobster, all man”
Randy has added “interactive features,” such as a “Touch Tank” that is just a cooler with a garden hose dripping into it.
The Newnan Aquarium is open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets are $4 or free if you bring Randy a pack of Marlboros.
