NEWNAN DEVELOPMENT LLC STUCK GOING IN CIRCLES OVER CAROUSEL PARKING
Newnan Development LLC Round & Round Holdings, LLC announced this week that construction plans for the city’s first-ever roundabout carousel are moving forward—except for one small issue: no one can figure out where to put the parking.
According to developers, early concepts included “just pulling over wherever it feels right,” converting the Marathon gas station into valet parking, or encouraging visitors to simply “ride the carousel until a spot opens up.” City officials confirmed multiple meetings have ended with diagrams of arrows, circles, and at least one confused stick figure.
Despite the setback, Round & Round Holdings, LLC remains optimistic and stating the carousel is expected to open as soon as someone figures out where cars are supposed to go without creating a second, larger roundabout nearby.
Internal memos now suggest the parking discussion has fully unraveled. What began as a logistical question has reportedly devolved into shouted ideas, overlapping whiteboards, and at least one developer spinning a marker in a circle while whispering “what if the parking is the ride.” One slide deck abruptly ends mid-sentence and resumes three pages later with the words “NO STRAIGHT LINES” in all caps.
Among the newer proposals: cars remain running at all times, drivers swap seats while rolling, or parking is eliminated entirely in favor of “emotional drop-off zones.” A brief but intense debate reportedly broke out over whether visitors should reverse into the carousel itself. City officials say meetings are now capped at 20 minutes “for everyone’s safety,” as diagrams have become less explanatory and more accusatory. Still, developers remain confident the project will open on schedule, or possibly yesterday, depending on how you’re oriented.
