The anonymous Georgia Lottery winner has officially claimed the largest jackpot in state history, stepping forward Jan. 2 to accept the Mega Millions prize from the Nov. 14 drawing.
Instead of taking the $453.6 million cash payout the normal way, the winner reportedly chose to receive the money in $50 Starship gift cards from the Thomas Crossroads sex shop — a total of 9,072,000 gift cards.
Yes. That Starship that your pastor wears a black baseball cap in.
The winner, who remains anonymous under Georgia law, said they regularly play the lottery to support HOPE and Pre-K and were reminded to buy the ticket after seeing a billboard. After checking the numbers online and realizing they’d won, they allegedly asked one follow-up question: “Do you do bulk orders?”
Lottery officials confirmed the request caused a brief silence, followed by someone asking if this was “a joke,” and then a longer silence, followed by a faint buzzing.
The winning ticket was sold at Publix #1816 at Arbor Springs in Newnan, which received a $50,000 retailer bonus and has asked to be left out of whatever is happening now.
The winner says the payout will be treated as a “generational investment,” adding that no one in their family will ever again have to awkwardly explain charges on their credit card statement.
