Arrest Made in Newnan Trolley Theft
A Temple woman has been arrested in connection with the theft of the Newnan Trolley, which authorities say had been missing for nearly two months before anyone realized it.
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office identified 48-year-old Allison Lambert Hines of Temple as the suspect. Investigators said she was identified after community members recognized her from surveillance images and contacted authorities.
Officials say the trolley was last seen parked downtown in early December. It wasn’t reported missing until February, when city staff noticed it hadn’t been used — or seen — since before Christmas. They also confirmed this is the most usage its ever received
Authorities said the delay happened partly because the trolley is never used. In fact, officials admitted it mainly sits parked unless there’s a photo opportunity.
“We just thought it was stored somewhere,” one city employee said. “It’s not like anyone was waiting on it.”
Surveillance footage shows a woman driving the trolley away overnight. After images were released, tips quickly led investigators to the suspect.
The trolley was later recovered outside the county. It was still working and, according to officials, “in about the same condition as when it disappeared. Maybe even nicer. It got some TLC.”
City leaders say they are reviewing procedures to make sure all expensive vehicles are accounted for more often. The trolley will also be given a 24/7 security bot that will scream NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
