NEWNAN — What started as one parent’s simple request has slowly turned into a small group of determined moms asking Coweta schools to reconsider one specific prom rule. Their request is simple. Let the kids bring their pets.

The situation began when one Newnan mother contacted school officials asking if her daughter could attend prom with her emotional support ferret named Mr Noodles. School administrators declined the request and explained that prom guests must currently be human.

The parent disagrees.

“Mr Noodles behaves better than most teenage boys,” she said.

Since then several other moms have joined the effort. One student wants to bring her golden retriever Daisy. Another asked if his bearded dragon could attend since it already owns a tiny tuxedo harness. A third family reportedly asked about a hedgehog that “loves music and standing near punch bowls.”

The parents have now formed a small online group where they share photos of pets they believe are capable of attending prom.

School officials say the rule will likely stay the same. Administrators say the venue is not prepared to host reptiles, rodents, birds, or what one email described as “a very polite goat.”

Still the parents say they plan to keep asking the school to reconsider.

“At the end of the day it is about inclusion,” one mother said. “And if a kid wants to slow dance with their hamster then that should be their choice.”
