DISCLAIMER: Don’t worry, ya big babies. I’m not gonna talk about the Principal.

It’s Storytime with Harold, so snuggle up under a warm coffee with a hot cup of blanket.
When I was but a youth I was homeschooled. My mother, obviously, dads don’t ever do the homeschooling, taught my brothers and I in our quaint lil’ home off Eastside School Road in Senoia. She was a good teacher. I know all the things a growing boy should. Example:
- I know the Pledge of Allegiance.
- I understand division.
- God created beluga whales and no one can understand why.
- I can name all the continents.
- I know haikus.
- Europe.
And I couldn’t have this wealth of knowledge without a K-11 education of homeschooling. Now, if you’re actually still here, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, “What does this have to do with East Coweta Football?”
I never had the public school experience. I never had the proms. I never had pep rallies. I never had the school plays. I never had the cheerleaders or the letterman (or is it leathermen?) jackets. I never had the fire drills. And I never had the sports. We didn’t have any Championship Banners hanging up in our living room! Only Championship we had was my Bible Drill State Championship certificate! State of Georgia! Perfect season. Suck it.
Most of the typical school experiences didn’t matter to me, but I was the only one out of the four brothers that absolutely loved sports! All of ’em. Everything my dad would turn on, I just obsessed over. I had the overflowing box of baseball cards, the collection of football helmets from the 25-cent vending machines, every Madden game, the early baseball games for N64. Pro-Wrestling was my lifeblood. I. LOVED. SPORTS.
So much so, that I’d even ask to go see EC Middle and EC High play, just to get a bit of the taste. Ahhhhh. That sweet, sweet taste of kids playing football poorly. You gotta love it.
As I got older and got a job and was able to afford my own TV with my own cable box and could choose all the sports I could ever watch, I was full on ’em. I no long was seeking my fill at Middle, High School, or Church Softball fields. I had the power to find whatever I wanted (College Football Classics being my go-to) and settle for nothing but the best (sometimes they showed crappy Tennessee on it, though).
The East Coweta High School football field wouldn’t return to my life for anything other than watching family members graduate! And graduations had far fewer tackles.
But now, as the NUMBER ONE source for Coweta County News, I have dug into the deep depths of local-going-ons and discovered that *GASP* East Coweta is kinda good?! Is this normal?! Let’s take a look!
For the first time since 2015, East Coweta has started a season 4-0. They have won their last four games with scores of 36-13, 24-0, 48-0, and 41-24! Those are Alabama-esque score lines, people. And probably against the same quality of opponent, too!
Last weekend’s game went so smoothly that Coach Small gave the back-ups a handful of snaps to finish out the game, leading to a more well-balanced team as they head into the bulk of their season with league play and the hosting of their Cross-County rivals Northgate this Friday night.
Last year these teams met and East Coweta (hoorah) gave Northgate a proper 49-17 bottom-paddlin’.
So, what is going on? Is High School football exciting? Is this something we need to get behind so we don’t look like bandwagoners later on? Is COVID going to ruin the whole thing soon regardless? One of you public school nerds help me out here.
