You can find Harold’s review at this link.

The below review comes from Harold’s date, who has been sitting across from him at each visit to Whimzical Cafe in Downtown Newnan

When I first saw mention of Whimzical on social media I was intrigued. The logo has a wine glass in it, the name is spelled with a Z, and it was labeled as a cafe.

Intrigued because….huh? What even is that?

Also because I am a lover of all things whimsy (whimzy?).

Traditionally I am a huge opponent of people switching letters to try and be quirky (a Z for an S….a K for a C), but I won’t harp on that.

Partially because it isn’t important, but also because I’m a hypocrite. I happen to be someone that decided to throw the letter “i” right smack dab into the middle of my daughter’s name just to give it some razzle dazzle and confuse every future teacher and potential employer.

I’m going to break my review into the good, the bad, and the best, because I want the content you read to be a good sandwich with the best bite saved for last.

The Nice List

Food

While the menu is short, it is full of some really tasty stuff. I haven’t had their salads yet but I have had some sandwiches and one of the flatbreads. The food seems to be high quality, but I’m no expert. The jurassic pork sandwich is probably my favorite, and they have a rosemary aioli that is fire. Those two things do not come together but when I go back you bet I’m going to ask if it can. Speaking of rosemary, if you get chips the rosemary sea salt chips are incredible. Do they come out of a bag? Probably! But you throw them on a plate with a fancy looking sandwich and I’ll convince myself you are slaving away back in the kitchen, slicing up some potatoes.

The Location

While they are in downtown Newnan, they aren’t in the middle of the square, so we have never had a hard time finding parking. While this may not be the best placement for them to gain the attention of customers, it sure is convenient for me!

The Staff

Thus far we’ve not had a negative experience with the staff there. They seem like the type of lil cuties pies that would work in a place called “Whimzical”.

The Drinks

This isn’t your cookie cutter downtown Newnan drink menu. Whimzical easily has some of (if not THE) best drink options in the area. The drink menu has so much to offer and feels very “whimzical” (so much so, I was willing to use the letter Z to describe it). They have the  traditional drinks you are used to seeing, but they also have signature drinks like “Jal-Up-In-Yo-Mule” and “The Fig Lebowski”. Adorable. Absolutely adorable. The drinks are pretty close in price to what you will find at other restaurants in the area. If I were rich, Whimzical might be the devil that lures me into a drinking problem. Luckily, I am not rich, and therefore cannot be tempted with their incredible drinks too often.

The Naughty List

Pricing

My biggest complaint is the pricing. A sandwich and chips is going to run you around $14. If you want to substitute the side it is an additional $3. On this date I got a sandwich, chips, and the long island iced coffee, which cost $30 (before tip). The bill for the three of us was over $80, and we did not order anything fancy.

Chairs

Also on the naughty list: the chairs. They are super uncomfortable. They do not make we want to sit down, have a few drinks, and get cozy. They make me wish I brought my own lawn chair.

No Kids Menu

Lastly, they do not really have kid friendly options. Maybe this is intentional, with a drink menu longer than the food menu it does seem catered towards adults.

Santa’s Favorite Elf

The Vibe

It was a close race for Santa’s favorite elf.  The alcoholic drinks almost took the race. But, they were beat out by the aesthetic of the place. Everything about the place is adorable. One of the first things you see when walking in is a rainbow chandelier. Each cup is different (in a good way, not an “oh my gosh we don’t have the budget for matching cups” kinda way). The silverware is gold. The bar area is decorated beautifully. Harold’s drink even came with a spiralized slice of cucumber on a floral toothpick. It feels like the kind of a place a Disney Princess would create, which is exactly the kind of vibe that suits me. It simultaneously feels so intentionally decorated while also feeling like a hodge podge of quirky nonsense. I imagine it like the owner has a daughter that went off to college and they raided her room for decorations. Unfortunately I did not see a k-pop poster, but I will admit that I did not go into the restroom, so maybe I just missed it.

Summary: Rating B+

With yummy food, incredible drinks, but high prices, Whimzical will be an occasional place I return to. I have not had their dessert nor their breakfast, so I definitely want to return soon and get the full experience. A larger menu and slightly lower prices would get this baby an A on my rating scale. If you haven’t gone I absolutely recommend trying it out.

Each time I have gone there I have been with the same date, so I can only speak to what the experience is like with Harold by your side. If you go there and you hate it maybe its because you aren’t dating Harold.  🤷‍♀️ Sorry ladies and gents.
