In a surprising development, Notre Dame has agreed to one postseason matchup, and it will be against the East Coweta Flag Football Team.
After turning down every bowl invitation this season, Notre Dame officials said they preferred to face “a program familiar with postseason success,” citing East Coweta’s quarterfinal win this week.
Sources close to the situation report the Irish are hoping to play the game before East Coweta has a chance to advance to the State Championship, noting the team “may become too competitive for our current comfort level.”
Notre Dame also inquired about switching the contest to full-contact rules, but East Coweta declined, explaining the Irish might not be emotionally prepared for that format.
Local fans say the matchup seems lopsided, mostly because East Coweta appears to be the only team involved with recent playoff experience.
