$1 Mega Millions “Jackpot” Won in Newnan; Largest Tiny Lottery Prize in Local History

A single Mega Millions ticket purchased in Newnan matched all six numbers drawn Friday night and won a jackpot worth an estimated $1 — the largest tiny prize in Georgia’s lottery lore.

The one-dollar ticket was bought at Publix #1816, located at 4000 N. Highway 29 in Newnan.

“We are thrilled to congratulate the winner of the biggest one-dollar jackpot we’ve ever seen in state history,” Georgia Lottery officials said in a statement. “With every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia supporting education programs like HOPE and Pre-K, even the smallest wins spread big cheer.”

The winning numbers for Friday’s drawing were: 1-8-11-12-57 and the Mega Ball was 7 — and someone somehow matched all of them with a ticket that paid out a legendary $1 prize.

This modest windfall now stands as the highest tiny payout ever claimed in Georgia Lottery history, easily topping previous “big wins” like a $0.50 scratch-off match and a coupon for free grocery coffee. Retailers selling winners also get a bonus, so the Newnan Publix will receive its own celebratory $1 gift card.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. (ET). And while the next jackpot won’t be quite this iconically tiny, it will be bigger than a single dollar.
