SCAM ALERT from Coweta County Sheriff’s Office PLEASE SHARE
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an online scam currently circulating in which individuals are impersonating well-known country music artists and requesting money.
In a recent example, scammers claimed to be a famous singer asking for funds “to go on tour.” When questioned, the individual attempted to prove their identity by referencing song lyrics or Southern phrases.
Residents are reminded:
• Celebrities do not personally contact individuals to ask for money
• Requests for cash, gift cards, or payment through apps are common scam tactics
• Photos, videos, or familiar references do not confirm authenticity
If you receive a message like this:
• Do not send money
• Do not continue the conversation
• Report the account on the platform used
• Contact the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office if you believe you were targeted
If something doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts and report it. Stay alert and stay safe. Learn a lot about livin and a little about love.
