DEVELOPING STORY: Netflix-Inspired Water Tower Incident Fuels East Coweta / Newnan Feud
NEWNAN — An EC graduate climbed the Newnan Water Tower this week to spray paint **LETS GO EC** near the N. People watching said it was free solo style, which they assume he learned from a new Netflix live stream.
The climb took nearly 2 hours and ended with the message being placed near the big N on the tower, without covering it up, which some are calling respectful. Officials say the tower is fine and the water still tastes the same.
Almost immediately, residents started blaming Netflix, saying this is what happens when you let people watch climbing shows in real time. Fewer people blamed EC, mostly because “school pride is good for us,” according to one homeschooled neighbor.
The climber made it down safe and has not spoken publicly, but sources say he graduated years ago and still refers to football seasons by the coach’s name. Netflix has not commented, but several parents said they are canceling their subscriptions until they issue an apology.
