Fayette County officials are talking about a new rule this year, and it would keep Coweta County vehicles out of the Gaddy’s Christmas Light Display because, according to them, Coweta cars “don’t really fit the vibe.” The county put out a draft saying Coweta vehicles are “too dented, too loud, too tall, or too taped together” to blend in with the soft glow of holiday lights. One line even claims some Coweta engines “make noises that scare roadkill off the road.”
County folks say the idea started after a giant lifted truck from Sharpsburg, described by witnesses as “basically an American flag with wheels,” rolled up and blocked out half the light show like a drunk eclipse. Another time, a very tired-looking Coweta sedan cruised through leaving behind a trail of mystery drips that “might be oil, might be eggnog, we don’t know.” They’ve since stationed a few volunteers (not trained, just available) to keep an eye out for “vehicular holiday hazards.”
The Gaddy family, though, is not having it. They put out a handwritten note saying they “like all visitors, even the ones whose cars make that ‘whomp-whomp’ noise,” and asked Fayette County to think twice before banning half their usual crowd. Coweta residents are already gearing up to support the Gaddys while forming a protest convoy made up of:
A 1994 Ford Taurus with spraypaint; a Chevy Cavalier held together by zip ties and grandpa’s shoelaces; a Dodge Neon with one working speaker that plays Ludacris on repeat; a ’96 Camry that the least favorite kid got as a hand me down; a two-tone F-150 made of three different trucks; a Civic with “Fast & Furias” written in sharpie; a lifted Silverado with apartment-sized tires; a rusted Maxima with no driver; an ’03 Buick LeSabre driven by a child; a minivan with “my other minivan ate your stick family” bumper stickered; a Ford Ranger with 910,000 miles; a perfectly fine Jeep Cherokee; a PT Cruiser mom won’t give up on; a Monte Carlo driven by a man named Monte Carlo; a Chevy S-10 with a “Hilary for Prison” sticker; and a horse drawn ghost wagon.
